This project is located in the central place of Nairobi, the envelope of the building is an elliptical shape and the height is 88M.

 

Challenges: Considering two-directions curvature of building the challenge was to select the system which can accommodate flexibility of faceted installation and take care of water drainage at stack joint especially at upper floors where panels are tilted inward.

 

As all panels were of unique sizes special attention was required during design & engineering especially at the corners wherein there is a 90-degree junction between outer tilting panel and straight return panel (Twisted Panel).

 

Our approach:  3D model was developed for the project and the system study was thoroughly done looking into the double curve the system was selected. Special attention was given for bracket designing, here we notched the hook referring to the curvature and provided pivoting arrangement so that all different angles will be accommodated. Geometric study of the facade was done to speed up the production drawings. The corner panels were extracted from the 3D model.

We at AFS are made to take such challenges and we really like working with different parametric shapes of the building.
